Honda City triumphs Hyundai Verna, clinches the No. 1 mid-size sedan tag

With the launch of new City, the Japanese carmaker, Honda, registered unprecedented growth with an overall monthly domestic sales of 14,543 units in February'14. The growth graph has increased to 123%, and undoubtedly the recently launched Honda City contributed maximum to it. The scenario has totally altered with the new City beating the ever since segment leader, Hyundai Verna to top the sales charts. The company sold 7213 units of City in a small time-frame as it was launched only in the January'14. The prime factor responsible for such outstanding performance of City is the introduction of diesel engine in it.

Considerably, the Honda fans were simply waiting for diesel powertain to arrive with new City. Since 2011, Hyundai Verna had been the top seller car of the segment, and retained the pole position up until last year. The lack of diesel City made Verna live its best phase in the Indian car market. There's no doubt, the new City is eating up sales for Verna and Volkswagen Vento. The new City is available with both petrol and diesel engines- 1.5-litre i-VTEC and 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel mill. Since City diesel being most significant from the market's perspective, lets discuss the change which this model has brought in for the company. From the perspective of an Indian buyer, the better mileage figures would certainly attract him more for any product, and new City diesel offers whooping mileage of 26kmpl.
Although, Hyundai doesn't seem to be sitting silent with the uprising competition levels in the mid-size sedan segment. To sustain the market challenge, Hyundai had also introduced a new trim in Verna with the name 'CX'. This is an additional variant offering better features, and also opening more options for the buyers.
