It is to be mentioned here that company had suspended receiving bookings for the SUV in the Indian market in January 2010, due to the mounting order backlog and continuously increasing delivery period for this vehicle in the country. The suspension of about five months doesn't seem to be making any big difference in leveling the high waiting period of 4 to 5 months as company still has an order-backlog of 4,000 units of Fortuner.
TKM said in a statement on Wednesday that bookings for the Fortuner will reopen from July 1, 2010, across India. The statement added that the company had put a hold on the bookings from January 31, 2010, because of a backlog of orders booked in. According to Mr Sandeep Singh, TKM Deputy Managing Director (Marketing), the deliveries of the new order will begin from October and continue till December 2010.
The company has been receiving an overwhelming response for this SUV in India as more than 8,500 units of this vehicle have already been sold, since its launch in the country, in August 2009. Mr Singh Further said that the resounding success of the Fortuner in India also meant a backlog of customer orders and high waiting periods. The company has now increased the production of the vehicle to more than 950 units (from initial capacity of 500 units) to clear the present backlog of less than 4,000 customer orders by this September.
