The French brand Peugeot has unveiled the new SUV, Peugeot 4008 built on the same platform as Peugeot 4007.
The SUV will be offered with four engine options, two in petrol and two in diesel, the price for the new SUV is not yet revealed. The two petrol engines are 1.6 L and 2.0L which can generate a peak power of 114 Bhp and 148 Bhp respectively. On the other hand the diesel engines viz; 1.6 L and 1.8 L have the capacity to produce the peak power of 110 Bhp and 148 Bhp respectively. The engines are expected to be mated with a 6-speed manual gearbox.The Europe bound Peugeot 4008 is likely to be a four-wheel drive variant equipped with the diesel motor alone. The Peugeot 4008 SUV can however, be customized to the four-wheel drive, two-wheel drive or the ‘Lock’ the wheels through the selectable driving modes. The SUV has been designed to maximize the cabin space by reducing the front and the rear overhangs by 300 mm while keeping the same wheel-base of Peugeot 4007. As for the Peugeot 4008 exteriors, the SUV adorns horizontal grille, 18” alloy wheels, LED daytime running lamps following the same pattern as the headlamps.
The interiors get a glass panoramic roof and touch-screen navigation system among the other interesting features. It is well-known that Peugeot envisages making its re-entry into India with the launch of its sedan Peugeot 508 during the 2012 Indian Auto Expo. On the other hand, the Peugeot 207 hatchback was found undergoing the tests near Pune. However, no confirmation on the launch of the hatchback in India is reported.
