2013 Mitsubishi Outlander

Mitsubishi recently pulled the wraps off the 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander at the Tokyo Motor show. The Japanese car manufacturer has showcased a new hybrid Concept PX MiEV II car at the event. One might not be interested in the concept car, but the highlight here is the new Outlander might share the resemblance with the new concept. However, in any case speculations this early are a little far-fetched as the new Mitsubishi Outlander will not make it to India any time soon or before 2013.Out of the Mitsubishi India line-up, Outlander has managed to make its own place in the country. Though one might not term it to be a great seller, it is not a dud seller either.  The petrol engine could be the reason why it has not seen a skyrocketing sales. Sitting high in the premium SUV segment at a Mitsubishi Outlander price of Rs 20 lakhs combined with the petrol engine when the SUVs are mostly offered with a diesel engine, the SUV wasn’t able to garner the sales it is expected of. However, there are some rumours which point out to a hybrid engine as well. A diesel-electric hybrid engine is also on the cards according to the recent gossips. The car maker is considering a new generation Mitsubishi Lancer EVO with hybrid engine which might have fuelled the speculations.

Putting the hybrid engine option aside, the auto major could consider a diesel powertrain for the Indian market for the revamped version. The outgoing Outlander is powered by a 2.4 L  MIVEC petrol engine that churns out a peak power of 170 Bhp and a peak torque of 226 Nm. The option of a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox is available in the SUV. Mitsubishi has used the same Tokyo Motor Show as the platform to unveil a new budget hatchback Mistubishi Mirage with some good fuel economy numbers. However, the auto major hasnt been clear as to its India launch.
