Tata Motors will unveil its all-new petrol engine in India on January 20, 2014. This engine is expected to be the 1.2-litre turbocharged mill which likely to churn out a maximum power output of 100PS. If reports to be believed, this powertrain will power the upcoming Falcon series.
Under the Falcon project, the company will unveil a compact sedan and a hatchback (Vista facelift) at the 2014 Delhi Motor Show. The new engine is based on the 1.2 Xeta motor which powered the Indica for a small tenure, and develops 65PS. With this engine, Tata aims to offer good drivability and fuel efficiency rather than the outright performance. Tata recently discontinued the Vista D90, which get its power from the 1.4-litre engine producing 90bhp.
Tata's diesel cars generates majority of its sales and it will be interesting to see how this engine would help the carmaker to gain more market in the country.
