'Quattro' was a leap into the future in 80's, these all-wheel drive machines provided maximum possible traction along the straight line or on the tacky curves, way ahead of competitors. “Innovations only become pioneering achievements when they’re successfully used and others start to adopt them,” says Head of Audi Motorsport Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich. “Audi, like no other manufacturer, has repeatedly achieved such feats ever since the debut of quattro four-wheel drive in 1980.”

Audi Crossover Concept revealed

The German luxury carmaker has revealed the first set of pictures of the Audi Crossover concept, which is scheduled to make its debut at the 2014 Detroit Motor Show. The company had teased the sketches of the concept in December and with this latest set of images, it is being speculated to be the Audi's upcoming Q1 crossover.

The crossover will be an electric hybrid as it features an 'e-tron' emblem. The front facade looks aggressive, thanks to its sharp headlights and a prominent Audi grille with horizontal slats. At the rear, a roof spoiler on the tailgate and a twin exhaust adds sportiness to the two door concept. With a wheelbase of 2.51 meters (8.23 ft), the show car − painted in Ice Blue − is 4.20 meters (13.78 ft) long, 1.85 meters (6.07 ft) wide and 1.41 meters (4.63 ft) tall. The vehicle gets plastic cladding all-around, sporty wheel arches and 19-inch alloy wheels.

Inside the cabin, the Crossover Concept has plenty of room for four passengers. In front, the narrow sport seats give the driver and front passenger optimal body support; they feature highly contoured lateral panels and integrated head restraints, while cushioned pads support the thighs in quick driving through curves. An easy entry function makes it easier to enter the rear seating area. When the rear seatback is folded down, a cargo area with a level cargo floor is created, in which there is space for rather large sports equipment.

The dashboard of the concept looks identical to the 'Virtual Cockpit' of the 2015 Audi TT. The steering wheel and digital instrument cluster lie in a single direct line of sight. It features a TFT display with its 12.3-inch screen, which gives all key information in top quality 3D graphics and offers a variety of modes. In the classic view, the power-meter for the plug-in hybrid drive system and the speedometer are in the foreground, while in Infotainment mode elements such as the large navigation map dominate, and in Sport mode the tachometer is prominently displayed. Another forward-looking feature in the show car is the Audi phone box, which links the driver's cell phone to the vehicle electrical system and can inductively charge it as necessary.

Under the hood, the Audi Show Car gets the 2.0-litre TFSI engine that churns out a maximum power output of 292bhp and 380Nm of peak torque. It operates together with a disc-shaped electric motor via a decoupling clutch; the electric motor develops 53.6bhp of power and 270Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a six-speed e-S tronic dual clutch transmission.

There is a second electric motor, which is a separate from this drive unit, is mounted to the rear axle. It supplies propulsive power at low and moderate vehicle speeds with its maximum power of 113bhp and 270Nm of torque. It can also be operated in tandem with the motor and engine at the front axle if the hybrid management system decides that all-wheel drive makes sense.

Audi’s Keogh Has No Desire to Mess With Success

AVON, CO – Stay the course.

That’s the message Audi sent last week when it named Scott Keogh its new top executive in the U.S., and Keogh says he has no intention of doing anything but.

“A ton of things have gone well (for the German luxury brand in the U.S.),” he tells WardsAuto in an interview here at a media backgrounder for the ’13 A4/A5 model line. “And that’s what we want to keep emphasizing.

“We’re not changing course. We’re not tweaking strategies. We’re not reinventing anything.”

Keogh, who has headed marketing in the U.S. for the past six years, was named president of Audi of America last week, filling the slot vacated by Johan de Nysschen, who resigned unexpectedly earlier this month to take a job overseeing Nissan’s Infiniti luxury brand worldwide.

“I was (shocked),” Keogh says of learning of de Nysschen’s decision to leave, which he announced in a conference call to key staffers. “I think the entire industry was. He kept it close to the vest and under his hat.

“(De Nysschen) was 19 years as an Audi executive, (and) very respected. So it was an emotional time for all of us.”

The auto maker’s board in Germany moved swiftly to plug the gap, a sign that, despite some recent upheavals in the executive ranks at the parent company, it is pleased with the pace of progress in the U.S.

“I went to Germany and met with some of the executives I know and have had a working relationship with, and they made the decision two weeks later,” Koegh says.

Although the Audi insider wasn’t the only candidate considered for the job, the success of the up-and-coming luxury brand and pressure from dealers to keep the boat from rocking appeared to give Keogh a leg up in the selection process.

“I think what the dealers always want, since they’re businessmen and invest a lot of capital over the long term, (is) consistency and stability,” he says. “You’ve seen the metrics we have right now. We have record sales, record market share, record pricing and the dealers are at record profitability levels.

“The dealers very much wanted a continuation. They definitely wanted an American executive who understands the brand, understands where it was, rightly or wrongly, and certainly where the brand is heading.”

Where Audi is heading is upmarket, Keogh notes, thanks to strong sales of its top-end C/D-segment cars, the A6, A7 and A8.

“If you look back in the day, about 11%-12% of (Audi’s) total volume would come from the C/D segments,” he says. “We have a stated target of being closer to the 30% zone. Year-to-date, we’re at 31%.

“We want to continue that, because we think it’s important for the center of gravity of a luxury brand to be much higher. The sign of a weaker luxury brand is (having) low pricing and low volumes. And that’s a sure sign you don’t have brand power.”

Audi transaction prices in the U.S. have risen some $6,000 per unit in the past two years, topping $50,000, the executive says.

The A7 mix is running 65% in favor of its highest-priced model, stickered in the mid-$70,000 range. Keogh expects a similar trend for the A6 line, when it introduces a quattro all-wheel-drive model this fall.

Building volume is the other big business objective, and Keogh says that will continue this year, as the brand “aggressively” shoots to break 2011’s record mark of 117,561-unit sales.

“The strategic target for us is 200,000. And we want to do it (while) holding pricing, holding residual values and delivering a healthy business case.”

Product availability remains tight and is likely to stay that way until Audi adds new capacity in Mexico for 2016.

The pipeline for Q5 and Q7 cross/utility vehicles is expected to loosen up later in the year, Keogh says, but customers are getting accustomed to waiting a bit for built-to-order cars. About 32% of Audi customers do not buy their vehicles off the lot.

“We are seeing a lot of people order cars,” he says. “We can build to thousands of configurations, and it’s more about when can I get my car, as opposed to how cheap can I get the dozen of cars that are sitting on the lot.

“This is healthy, healthy stuff. If we can keep that going, that’s the holy grail scenario.”

Keogh’s immediate task will be to find a replacement for his now-vacant marketing slot.

“I’m working on it,” he says. “This is only day three for me.”

Audi A4 2012 Sedan at Rs. 27.33 lakh

Audi, the German luxury car manufacturer, today announced the launch of the new Audi A4 – its longest selling sedan. The new Audi A4 with its newly acquired emotional appeal reaches out to a younger and much wider customer base. The new Audi A4 offers considerable advantages over its predecessor and combines powerfully dynamic design with outstanding handling characteristics. Priced from INR 2,733,000 onwards (Ex-showroom Maharashtra), this sporty and stylish new model is now available at Audi dealerships across the country.

“The new Audi A4 with its progressive design, efficient driving dynamics and class defining interiors will take the driving experience to a new paradigm for all our customers. The young and sleek looks will appeal to the younger generation who have arrived in life and are looking to affirm their status and positions among their peers.

The engines with their superior technology will give better fuel efficiencies while the new and improved lines and interiors will certainly turn heads and add to the comfort and luxury that one expects from Audi. The outstanding sales performance in the first quarter of 2012 of its predecessor encouraged us to pre-pone the launch of the new Audi A4”, said Mr. Michael Perschke, Head, Audi India.

Audi continues to be the fastest growing luxury car brand in India. The brand with the four rings continues to be the market leader in the sports car segment with Audi R8, Audi RS5 and now Audi TT and in the luxury SUV segment in India with Audi Q5 and Audi Q7. The launch of the new Audi A4 will strengthen Audi’s A range of limousines and will further consolidate Audi’s leadership position in the segment.

The A4 is Audi’s bestseller for 39 years now and in its eighth generation. The A4 with more than 10 million vehicles sold since 1972 has a long and most successful history in the Audi fold. In the first quarter of 2012, the Audi A4 outsold its core competition in India and emerged as the best-seller in its segment.

The A4, with its elegance, sportiness and emotional appeal, forms the centerpiece of the Audi brand. The new look further accentuates the horizontal lines at the front end. The engine hood is more arched, the upper corners of the single frame grille are tapered, and the cross ribs and the Audi rings are highlighted three-dimensionally. The redesigned bumpers are striking with their angular air inlets, their revised grilles and the flat front fog lights.

The fuel efficiency on an average has improved by 10 percent on the new Audi A4. The 1.8 TFSI offers a fuel efficiency of 15.64 km/l (ARAI) – fuel efficiency has improved by 25 percent compared to its predecessor. The 2.0 TDI offers an efficiency of 16.55 km/l(ARAI), thus ensuring best in class fuel efficiency. The new Audi A4 is the first Audi which offers the fully integrated Audi Car Life product, which combines financing, service plan, insurance and extended warranty.

Audi Car Life is a high convenience product for elite customers, which integrates finance, insurance, service plan and extended warranty. With Audi Car Life, customers can enjoy maximum convenience as these services can be bundled at one single EMI rate. Audi Car Life, launched with the new Audi A4, will be offered eventually with the Audi A6, Audi A8, Audi Q5 and Audi Q7.

While Audi scored in total 27 awards in 2011-2012, most features of the seven times award winning Audi A8 and Audi A6 are now available in the Audi A4 such as LED  Daytime Running Lights, Driver Information System, Xenon Plus Headlights, Audi Music Interface and Efficiency increase (Energy Recovery). The drive system of the new Audi A4 sets new standards. All engines are turbocharged direct-injection systems; the recuperation system is standard throughout and the start- stop system is standard in petrol variants.

Audi offers a whole kit of state-of-the-art infotainment systems for its A4 series. The concert radio with eight speakers is standard, while the MMI system with voice dialogue, color monitor and DVD player forms the top of the line.  “We have been steadfast in expanding our network so as to achieve the target of selling at least 8000 cars by the end of this year. It is this ability to identify potential markets and tap them with right products that has helped us maintain our position as the fastest growing luxury car brand in India. Audi has bagged 27 awards for our class defining products such as the Audi A8, Audi A7 Sportback and the Audi A6 and this not only reinforces our brand’s appeal but also the prominent position that we have taken in India’s luxury car market.

I am confident that our impressive sales performance where we achieved the No.2 position in the first quarter coupled with the recent launch of the new Audi A4, Audi TT and the imminent arrival of the Audi Q3, plus our fast expanding dealer network will ensure that Audi maintains its position as the fastest growing luxury car brand in India”, added Mr. Perschke. Audi has achieved remarkable sales performance in India with sale of 562 cars in April 2012 – a growth of 50 percent over the same period last year (April 2011: 375 cars). The brand with the four rings grew by 43 percent during Jan to April of 2012, delivering 2831 vehicles as compared to 1986 vehicles delivered during the same period last year. Audi India plans to expand its network to 25 dealerships by the end of 2012 from its existing 18 centres. Audi recently opened new showrooms in Coimbatore, Delhi West and Nagpur. Last year, the luxury carmaker opened new showrooms in Delhi South, Chennai, Ludhiana, Surat and Indore. Further developments include Bhopal, Lucknow and Mumbai South.
